If you are not new to Hearts games start wherever you please! There are hundreds of games available at 247Hearts. If you are a beginner, try your hand against the card players in our Easy Hearts game. Each level of Hearts, Easy, Medium, Hard, and Expert or made more challenging or less so by advances in AI. Players can enjoy Hearts on 247 Hearts with other players because of Artificial Intelligence. All in all there are 26 penalty points in each deal in the card game Hearts. Also, the Queen of Spades or "Calamity Jane" is worth 13 points. In modern day Hearts, unlike Reversis, each Heart is worth one point. Since then this scientific card game has come a long way. It originated in Spain in the 1700's, at that time Heart was called Reversis. The card game, Hearts, has evolved over the years. Whichever player has the LEAST amount of points wins! When a player reaches 100 points, the game will end. Each round of Hearts will end when players have completed their hands. This means a player must play a heart while another suit is being played. A leading trick player is not able to start with a heart unless they only have hearts in their hand or until the hearts have been "broken". The player who takes the trick will become the leader of the next trick. The points accumulated by any penalties and the trick are given to the player of the highest card in the suit that was originally put into play. Among the cards they may choose to discard or "slough" is a penalty Heart or the Queen of Spades. If they do not have a card that is the same suit as the lead card then Heart players can play any card that they have. Subsequent players are to play a card that is the same suit as the lead card. Hearts Card Game is played in a clockwise order. All cards are face-down except the last card of each. You deal out 54 cards from left to right in 10 columns, with 6 cards in the first 4 columns and 5 cards in the last 6 columns. After they have done so the other Heart players will play a card from their hands. Using two decks of two different suits, you arrange your game space into three key parts: The tableau: Like any Solitaire game, the tableau is the main area for play. Start playing Hearts with the card player with the 2 of clubs starting off the first trick. However, even though the rules are simple there is a righteous range of scientific sport in this "evasion type" card game. Like other fun trick-taking card games such as Spades and Bridge the rules of the game are not complicated. Cards of opposing suits can be added in descending order in the tableau, but if you choose to do this, all the above cards in the stack will go inactive until that card is removed.Fall in love with Hearts at ! Hearts is structured to be played with four players, it is not difficult to learn but there is strategic play abound. The stock button can be used to add another row of cards to the stacks if you run out of moves. Beat Fall 2 Suit Spider Solitaire when all cards are sorted into these stacks and each has thus been eliminated from the board. Take the next step with 2 Suit Spider Solitaire and watch your skills beautifully change, just as the leaves of fall do!Ĭards of the same suit should be laid in descending order (K to A) in the tableau to ultimately win this game. Two Suit Spider Solitaire is a card game that uses two decks of cards, instead of one. Fall 2 Suit Solitaire is the next challenge in the spider solitaire series. As fall progresses, so will your abilities in playing spider solitaire. Stanley attended the Watts Acid Test on February 12, 1966, with his new apprentice Tim Scully, and provided the LSD. He was featured (most prominently his freak-out at the Muir Beach Acid Test in November 1965) in The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test (1968), Tom Wolfe's book detailing the history of Kesey and the Merry Pranksters. By this time, Sandoz LSD sold under the trade-name Delysid was hard to come by, as Sandoz halted LSD production in August 1965 after growing governmental protests at its proliferation among the general populace, which meant that "Owsley Acid" had become the new standard. In September 1965, Stanley became the primary LSD supplier to Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters. His first shipment arrived on March 30, 1965, and he produced 300,000 hits (270 micrograms each) of LSD by May 1965 then he returned to the Bay Area. He used his Berkeley lab to buy 500 grams of lysergic acid monohydrate, the basis for LSD. Stanley returned to Los Angeles to pursue the production of LSD. The police were looking for methamphetamine but found only LSD, which was not illegal at the time. He beat the charges and successfully sued for the return of his equipment. He dropped out after a semester, took a technical job at KGO-TV, and began producing LSD in a small lab located in the bathroom of a house near campus his makeshift laboratory was raided by police on February 21, 1965. In 1963, he enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley, where he became involved in the psychoactive drug scene. Later, inspired by a 1958 performance of the Bolshoi Ballet, he studied ballet in Los Angeles, supporting himself for a time as a professional dancer. During his service, he secured an amateur radio license and a general radiotelephone operator license. In June 1956, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as an electronics specialist, serving for 18 months (including stints at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Edwards Air Force Base's Rocket Engine Test Facility) before being discharged in 1958. Despite his dearth of formal education, he secured a position as a test engineer with Rocketdyne in Los Angeles in this capacity, he worked on the SM-64 Navaho supersonic cruise missile. Despite maintaining a 3.4 grade point average with minimal effort, he dropped out because of his disinclination for slide rules and mechanical drawing. Without having graduated from high school, he was admitted to the University of Virginia, where he studied engineering for a year. When he was fifteen, Owsley spent fifteen months as a voluntary psychiatric patient in St. House of Representatives, campaigned against Prohibition in the 1920s. His paternal grandfather, Augustus Owsley Stanley, a member of the United States Senate after serving as Governor of Kentucky and in the U.S. Stanley was the scion of a political family from Kentucky. He died in a car accident in Australia (where he had taken citizenship in 1996) on March 12, 2011. By his own account, between 19, Stanley produced at least 500 grams of LSD, amounting to a little more than five million doses. Ĭalled the Acid King by the media, Stanley was the first known private individual to manufacture mass quantities of LSD. Stanley also helped Robert Thomas design the band's trademark skull logo. Stanley also developed the Grateful Dead's Wall of Sound, one of the largest mobile sound reinforcement systems ever constructed. Under the professional name Bear, he was the sound engineer for the Grateful Dead, recording many of the band's live performances. He was a key figure in the San Francisco Bay Area hippie movement during the 1960s and played a pivotal role in the decade's counterculture. Augustus Owsley Stanley III (Janu– March 12, 2011) was an American-Australian audio engineer and clandestine chemist. The direction in which cards are passed varies across the first three rounds, indicated by the presence of a yellow arrow in the game. As the game progresses, players must exchange three cards with one player and simultaneously receive three cards from a different player again. Dealing and PlayingĪt the start of the Hearts game, every player receives a total of 13 cards. If successfully executed, the player who shoots the moon scores 0 points, while each of the other players are given 26 points, which can dramatically alter the standings. This strategy involves a player's deliberate attempt to gather all the Hearts cards and the Queen of Spades. An intriguing rule known as “Shooting the Moon” is also in play. Therefore, the objective is to avoid penalty cards, which give you points-specifically the Hearts cards, each carrying a value of 1 point, and the Queen of Spades, which incurs a hefty 13 points. As we know, the player who achieves the lowest score is the winner. The primary goal of the game is to minimize the collection of penalty points. The hearts game ends when someone reaches or exceeds 100 points, and whoever has the lowest score at that point is the winner. The game employs a traditional French deck comprising 52 cards, where the Ace carries the highest value and the 2 holds the lowest. This individual game involves four players, each playing independently. Hearts distinguishes itself from most other card games by emphasizing a unique objective: rather than striving for the highest score, players aim to achieve the lowest. This makes the content fluid as a percentage unit is used, it also has a max-width set as I don't want the video displaying wider than 640pxįrom here we need to add in a HTML container around the video and declare the CSS. Place the iframe code on your page, in this example above the iframe's container div (div.youtubevideowrap) has 2 CSS declarations for width, it has a width:80% and a max-width:640px. The first thing that you need is the YouTube iframe embed code, grab that in your video share options from the YouTube site. The example fiddle link works because it's displaying an embedded youtube video link that does not have a size declared. This example uses a CSS solution, you need to add a couple of CSS styles in your main CSS file. You can make the iframe container responsive but not the content it is displaying since it is a webpage that has its own set height and width. The scroll is throttled so that we do not fire an excesive amount of messages to the child. To scale a YouTube video to fit any browser or tablet/mobile device for responsive design you can use either a CSS or Javascript solution to accomplish the goal. Javascript Needed on Every Child Page var pymChild = new pym.Child() Resize your browser window to see the responsiveness in action. Pym.js does not require jQuery or any other libraries. If you use Bower to manage your Javascript dependencies then you can install Pym.js by running:īower install pym.js Having trouble loading Pym.js in your CMS? If you use NPM to manage your Javascript dependencies then you can install Pym.js by running: We recommend using https, but the unsecure http protocol is also supported if you need it. Learn more about our versioning strategy. But with a parent container width of 50 it works Thats why its needed for responsiveness. If you change its width (lets say 50 for half the screen), the aspect ratios lost. We will keep the CDN version up-to-date so that we can fix bugs and add new features and you won't have to change anything. Your code only works b/c youve set the aspect-ratio divs width to 100 which is conveniently the same as the parent containers (the body). We recommend in most cases that you use the latest stable version of Pym.js hosted on our content delivery network (CDN) at instead of downloading it directly. We recommend everyone update to 1.3.2 as soon as possible. Version 1.3.2 is an important security release. In version 1.3.0 we have added an optional scroll tracking support. Use case: The NPR Visuals team uses Pym.js to embed small custom bits of code (charts, maps, etc.) inside our CMS without CSS or JavaScript conflicts. It also bypasses the usual cross-domain issues. Pym.js embeds and resizes an iframe responsively (width and height) within its parent container. It’s easy enough to make an iframe’s width span 100% of its container, but sizing its height is tricky - especially if the content of the iframe changes height depending on page width (for example, because of text wrapping or media queries) or events within the iframe. Thats why the above approach does not work in this. In the Responsive Iframe Generator, you can give different width and height for different screens. The generated iframe code will have different views on different screens. responsive, while you have horizontally scrolling content with in that iframe. Responsive IFrame Generator is used to generate the responsive iframe code. Using iframes in a responsive page can be frustrating. In the initial problem, the IFrame content was responsive, while having horizontally scrolling content so the question was not how to emulate the iframe scrolling, but how to get the iframe width to be 100 i.e. Im looking to iframe in a web form that has variable height depending on the page of the form user is on, so that it will be responsive on mobile too By setting the width it seems to display appropriately, however setting the height as shown in the HTML below seems to cut off all but the top of the form. About Pym.js Latest version: 1.3.2 (released Feb. Does a bear drop in the woods? That is the question. PHIL LESH : This song is about bear drops. These bears might look cuddly and cute, but there’s a bit more to the story. But they’re everywhere, an iconography permanently associated with the Grateful Dead.īut why bears? And why are they dancing? It’s kind of like asking what egg-laying rabbits have to do with Easter, but there’s a lot more LSD involved. Maybe you love them, maybe you hate them. When there are baseball games, people wear them as costumes and dance on top of the dugout. They’re on sweatshirts and scarves and golf balls and pretty much anything you can put a dancing bear on. They’re on license plate holders and stickers that get stuck on bathroom mirrors in bars. Maybe you’ve never even heard of the Grateful Dead before and you accidentally clicked on this somehow - you’ve still seen these bears, trust me. If you're interested, you can find many of these extremely cool and collectible bears at : You know the dancing bears. Several companies have been producing limited editions of stuffed Grateful Dead bears and it appears they've become quite collectible. They can be seen everywhere from posters, stickers, key chains and coffee mugs to shirts and even neckties. They've come to represent more than just the Dead and the counterculture, practically joining the mainstream. If you have any interest in the music of the Grateful Dead or classic rock at all, you're probably familiar with them. Whether they're marching or dancing, Grateful Dead bears have found a permanent spot in American pop culture. I say marching instead of dancing because on Owsley's website he states ".the bears on the album cover are not really "dancing".their positions are quite obviously those of a high-stepping march." If you go to Owsley's site you can see a picture of the actual printer's slug, given to Owsley by Thomas before he died. On the back cover of the album the bears are seen marching in a circle. I thought the effect was pretty cool - and yes, I know, I'm very easily amused. I discovered this when I had all the images in one folder on my computer and I quickly clicked through them. If you lined them up in a flip book and flipped through them quickly they would look like they were actually marching along. The proper order is purple, green, yellow, orange, red. They are arranged in a certain order for the marching positions to flow naturally. There's five different bears - each one is a different color and drawn in a different marching position. He was inspired by a generic lead slug for a bear he found in a printer's box of fonts. In keeping with the album's theme Thomas incorporated bears in the cover art. He also recorded the music and produced the entire album. He also created the "Steal Your Face" - the Dead's well known skull and lightning bolt logo - and painted the cover for the album Live/Dead.īear's Choice was a tribute to Pigpen who had recently passed away and all the tracks were selected by Owsley. They were created by Bob Thomas - an old friend of Bear's who was an accomplished artist and musician in his own right. The first official appearance of the Grateful Dead bears as we know them was on the back cover of the album Bear's choice. There's always been a lot of mystery surrounding Augustus Owsley Stanley III. Whether any of this is true - I really don't know. Supposedly his friends dubbed it the "dancing bear" and this is where the term originates from. I've read that Owsley developed a very unique form of dancing at concerts while high on acid. The name stuck and people still refer to him as Bear to this day. He was given this moniker by his friends in his childhood because he grew a lot of body hair at a young age. It's well known that Owsley's nickname is Bear. It's said that the massive amounts of high quality acid he produced in his lab were largely responsible for the beginning of the summer of love and the whole San Francisco scene in the Sixties. A man of many talents, he was both a chemist and the sound wizard involved with the creation of the Dead's famous PA system - the "wall of sound". Owsley is, of course, the famous "LSD millionaire" who was the sound engineer for the band when they first started out. At least that's what I read somewhere, I could be wrong, probably only he knows for sure. It's been said that the Grateful Dead bears first appeared as a design on Owsley's blotter acid but I was under the impression that he sold his acid in the form of pills that resembled small barrels. |
